{"id":3193,"date":"2019-02-18T10:00:51","date_gmt":"2019-02-18T09:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.italialounge.com\/pelle-naturale-e-sostenibile\/"},"modified":"2021-03-12T10:02:01","modified_gmt":"2021-03-12T09:02:01","slug":"pelle-naturale-e-sostenibile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.italialounge.com\/en\/pelle-naturale-e-sostenibile\/","title":{"rendered":"Natural and sustainable leather"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2757 size-full alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.italialounge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Pelli_IL_laboratorio_08_350x510.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The <strong>Italian tanning industry<\/strong>, a symbol of <strong>quality<\/strong> and <strong>experience<\/strong> all over the world, is one of the most engaged in the <strong>product sustainability<\/strong> management and in <strong>reducing the waste<\/strong> of non-renewable resources, along with reducing the environmental impact of leather production in the areas surrounding the production facilities. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The logic of re-use can be found as early as <strong>raw materials<\/strong>, which derives from <strong>wastes of the meat industry<\/strong>.<br \/><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The tanning industry, therefore, reuses and processes what in another industry would be a waste with a rather complex disposal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The tanning industry, therefore, reuses and processes what in another industry would be a waste with a rather complex disposal.<br \/>The peculiarity of this industry is precisely <strong>refining and making valuable<\/strong> what would in fact be a <strong>waste material<\/strong>, implementing a <strong>sustainable circular pattern<\/strong> with a sense of responsibility towards the community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In fact, <strong>most of the wastes of the tanning industry are destined for recovery<\/strong>: around 76%, according to 2016 estimates, a percentage that rises to 84% if all production waste is considered. Here are a few examples that demonstrate this model of reuse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Flashing<\/strong>, the waste removed from hides before tanning, is processed to obtain hydrolysed proteins that are used to produce <strong>special fertilisers<\/strong>, which are totally <strong>biodegradable<\/strong> and pose no risk to public health or the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2542 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.italialounge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/PelleRiuso_template_700x510-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"510\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.italialounge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/PelleRiuso_template_700x510-1.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.italialounge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/PelleRiuso_template_700x510-1-500x364.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The <strong>shavings<\/strong>, <strong>trimmings<\/strong> and <strong>various waste<\/strong> products are subjected to <strong>thermal or enzymatic hydrolysis processes<\/strong>, thanks to which <strong>high quality fertilisers<\/strong> can be obtained.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>The processing of these by-products of the tanning industry also produces proteins that are useful in the creation of the so-called <strong>intelligent fertilisers<\/strong>, defined in this way because they are biostimulant and improve the physical characteristics of the soil.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Other waste, also rich in protein, is used to make products for the <strong>food supply chain<\/strong> such as <strong>collagen<\/strong>, <strong>artificial casings<\/strong>, <strong>gelatine<\/strong>, and <strong>food protein<\/strong>. When not suitable for food consumption, they can be processed into technical gelatines and glues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Another interesting processing of tanning waste is the <strong>sludge<\/strong> from the <strong>treatment of wastewater<\/strong>, which, mixed with calcium carbonate, is used in <strong>granulates for construction<\/strong> and in the creation of <strong>bitumen for asphalts<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The trend to invest in<strong> innovative technologies<\/strong> and in the reduction of <strong>resource use<\/strong> is increasingly widespread in the leather processing industry.
